The 5-Minute Meditator The 5-Minute Meditator

Eric Harrison, 176 pages - $25
Available at the Lifeflow City Studio - refer below

The 5-Minute Meditator is printed in full colour with over a hundred photos, diagrams and cartoons. It contains 42 exercises to help you calm your body and mind in short bursts throughout the day. Learn to ‘be present’, to be more sensual and just ‘do what you are doing’. Once you know how, you can relax 50% in just two or three minutes, and stay relaxed thereafter while you walk, eat, work, shop, wait or do exercise or housework. Since short meditations naturally grow into longer ones when circumstances allow, this book is an excellent introduction to meditation itself.

Eric is a colleague of the Centre's director, Dr Graham Williams, and was trained in a similar style of meditation.

Insight and Love
An introduction to Insight meditation – a practical way to become free from emotional conflict

Insight and Love - an introduction to Insight meditationGraham Williams
150 pages – $23
Available at the Lifeflow City Studio - refer below

This book is the beginning of taking Lifeflow meditation further than just relaxation and stress management. Of course, meditation is the ideal tool for such things, but it goes much further. The clarity and concentration that arise out of Lifeflow meditation can be applied to many aspects of our life. This book does just that, exploring issues such as love, friendship and questions about what is valuable in life.

This text is highly recommended for any students in our Level 3 or higher courses.

From the book's introduction

For the first time you see reality without thinking about it and without any self-referencing whatsoever. Experiencing this for the first time is quite a shock; it’s a revelation which is exhilarating, ecstatic, incredibly simple, a great relief and even hilariously funny.

Insight meditation produces a state where you see clearly and directly by stripping away everything else. It’s a process of removing all the layers until the core of your mind is revealed – crystalline and clear. Insight is cool rather than warm. It’s for seeing. And this book reflects that state.

The book is composed so that each chapter is followed by an interlude. The essays that make up the interludes were written during the same year, and therefore reflect on the same themes, ideas and experiences outlined in the body of the book.

These short essays can be read separately, or as a commentary on the main text, or can be passed over altogether if you wish. They make the distinction between love and security and follow the theme of letting go; of opening up and consciously learning to be receptive. Their focus is on learning to be instead of always having to do – going “inwards and downwards” instead of “onwards and upwards”.

When you experience this, it provides enormous relief, as you discover that the feeling of going in and down accompanies the process of the mind and body regaining their natural balance. Your energies are restored and refreshed. You are completely open to the rich world of your senses and have access to the infinite detail and variety they reveal, which you normally do not notice, and to the world of your intuition.

The Art of Awareness

Eric Harrison, 240 pages - $20
Available at the Lifeflow City Studio - refer below

Meditation is much more than a relaxation technique. It can also give you a calm, clear and self-observant quality of mind that we call 'awareness' or 'mindfulness'. To be aware means you are fully 'present' with whatever you do, and can see your thoughts and emotions with detachment and insight. This leads to inner balance and self-understanding, and the kind of deep, intelligent thought that is the true reward of meditation.
