Tantra meditation – Inner Bliss

Inner Bliss - gentle radiance of moonlight

Sunday 28 Mar
11 am - 12.30 pm
Tara Hills Retreat Centre
Dr Graham Williams

Embrace the feeling of moonlight - cool, open and receptive, a gentle bliss flowing through your body, like the outpouring of a spring - this is Inner Bliss.

At our advanced visualisation sessions we offer an experience that engages all of your senses – sight, touch, sound, smell and taste – it gives a far more powerful experience than what we can offer in our City Studio. The visualisation will be accompanied with a mantra (a series of words that are repeated, bringing an aural component to the meditation) which, once learnt, can be used to easily bring back the feeling of the meditation.

A shared meal follows the visualisation.

Andrew Baldwin - glass artistMembers seminar

Long retreat – a work in progress
Andrew Baldwin
Sunday 2 May
11 am - 12.30 pm
Tara Hills Retreat Centre

Andrew is a professional glass-blower who started practicing meditation as a teenager. Currently he is undertaking a long retreat at Tara Hills.  In this seminar he will discuss the experiences that led him to meditation and long retreat, including a brief background to the education and philosophies which shaped his life.

Andrew will also talk about some of the fundamentals of his practice and approach to meditation, three things that saved his life and the process of learning to wake up from the semi-hypnotic state of daily existence. Strong and colourful language may be used at times.

Bring your questions – there will be time for these and discussion in this session.

Fear responseEmotions and instincts
– exploring the fear response and what meditation offers

John Burston
Sunday 22 August
11 am – 12.30 pm
Tara Hills Retreat Centre

Our instincts are geared to react immediately: well before we’ve worked out what is happening, our body is reacting. This process is driven by emotion and enables us to make snap decisions. This might save our life, or it might dig us deeper into a hole. An instinctive response is usually made well before we become aware of it – an insight that has been integral to the meditation tradition for two and half millennia, but is relatively new to our culture.

Studies in neuroscience can now shed light on some of the hidden processes that shape our instinctive responses, particularly when emotion is involved. This seminar will draw on the text The emotional brain – the mysterious underpinnings of emotional life by neuroscientist Joseph LeDoux, which looks at our body’s fear response – what the studies of neuroscience have discovered about it, and why it has a crucial impact on our life. This gives a physiological perspective on what happens when we make decisions in a state of emotional conflict, and how emotions can totally colour our thoughts.

In this session Le Doux’s scientific perspective will be linked to some of the skills taught and areas explored at Lifeflow: how to deal with emotional conflict, working with emotions using the Three C Technique™ and Tantra meditations. There will be plenty of opportunities to raise questions during the session and reflect on how you use these strategies in your own life.

Everyone is welcome to stay for a share lunch after the seminar. Please call us if you would like any further information.

Tantra meditation

Dance of fire

Cutting through appearances

Sunday 21 November
11 am - 12.30 pm
Tara Hills Retreat Centre

This meditation allows you to tap a fiery quality of direct awareness – learning not to be fooled or dulled into believing appearances, or believing that situations are immutable. Sometimes in life you need to tap the power of your gut instinctual energies for cutting through – this meditation is for training yourself to do this skilfully.

About Members' seminars

  • These seminars have been set up to provide an oportunity for members to share their experiences of meditation and its integration into everyday life. All members are encouraged to attend, to ask questions and gain some insights from fellow meditators' experiences. Each seminar is presented by a member of the Centre, who may or may not be a teacher - so it's a great way to hear about meditation from a variety of persectives.
  • Each seminar is free for all Lifeflow members.

About Tantra meditation sessions

  • Each half-year, one of a series of 12 advanced meditations are held at Tara Hills. These meditations, with their mantras, can help you to become more familiar with different kinds of healthy emotional states. Through practice you can develop these states, and learn to access them at will.
  • Payment for this session is by donation.

These sessions also provide a great opportunity to connect with a broader community of meditators.
