"This time it will be different!" - an alternative take on "rebirth" from classical Buddhism

Sunday 30 March
11 am - 12.30 pm
Tara Hills Retreat Centre

In this seminar John Burston will explore links between emotions, where they come from and where they lead to, and classical Buddhist writings on the cycle of birth, death and rebirth. The classical teachings describe cycles as occuring from lifetime to lifetime, but a more useful approach can be to look at what makes us act or move in this life, and why patterns or events tend to repeat themselves.

Formal Visualisation—Direct Insight

Sunday 11 May
11 am - 12.30 pm

Tara Hills Retreat Centre
Dr Graham Williams

This formal visualisation works with the quality of developing concentration and will, so that "the many moments of consciousness scattered throughout memory are collected to one, leading to insight". Developing and strengthening concentration to cut through emotional conflict is another aspect of this visualisation.

Freedom as embracing the unknown
— a philosophical perspective

Dr Lisa Hancock
Sunday 24 August
11 am - 12.30 pm
Tara Hills Retreat Centre

How does this view of freedom help us answer the
Big questions: What is Truth? What is Reason?
What is Justice?

Drawing on material from Lisa’s recently completed PhDAutonomy as Creative Action we will explore how the meditative experience of 'letting go' can shed light on how we think about these ‘universal’ values. This session will include a brief introduction to western philosophy’s take on these values, as well as opportunities to reflect on how you make sense of them yourself.

Formal Visualisation—Luminosity of form

Sunday 26 October
11 am - 12.30 pm

Tara Hills Retreat Centre

This formal visualisation is for cultivating a quality of mind which sees all form as luminous. It links in with the exercises used in Yoga-Tantra, and is for keeping your mind flexible and open. Everything in life is constantly changing; by holding to the luminosity of form you can learn to stay with what is happening rather than getting weighed down with hopes or expectations.

About Members' Seminars

These seminars have been set up to provide an oportunity for members to share their experiences of meditation and its integration into everyday life. All members are encouraged to attend, to ask questions and gain some insights from fellow meditators' experiences. Each seminar is presented by a member of the Centre, who may or may not be a teacher - so it's a great way to hear about meditation from a variety of persectives.

Each seminar is free for all Lifeflow members.

About Members' Formal Visualisation Sessions

Each half-year, one of a series of 13 formal meditations are held at Tara Hills. These meditations, with their mantras, can help you to become more familiar with different kinds of healthy emotional states. Through practice you can develop the these states, and learn to access them at will.

Prerequisites apply:
Members who wish to attend this session must have attended at least two of the Formal Visualisation Sessions held at our City Studio. These are normally held at the end of each half year.
Payment for this session is by donation.

About Members' Forums

Members' Forums have been set up to allow time to focus on questions that members may have about their meditation work. A whole session may be devoted to a single question, and the sessions often cover material that is not presented at the Levels courses.

Each forum is free for all Lifeflow members.

These sessions also provide a great opportunity to connect with a broader community of meditators.
