The Level 2 Meditation Course provides the next step in expanding your experience of meditation after completing the Level 1 course. This course assumes all of the knowledge and experience from Level 1, and then develops key aspects in detail.
Students can learn to cultivate the skill and art of meditation: building on the practices of concentration and inner awareness that have been developed in the Basic course and gaining confidence to extend the meditations further. You can also enhance your understanding of the theory and wisdom that underpins Lifeflow Meditation. Each module will develop the meditations begun in the Basic course, as well as introducing some new ones.
The course is taught in 3 self contained modules: Training Awareness, Developing Meditative Concentration and Life In Balance. One module is taught each term. You can come to one, two or all three of the modules. You can start in any term and continue for three terms to cover the entire course. Completing three modules is only a requirement if you wish to progress to Level 3.
In addition, it is recommended that students complete at least one weekend retreat before progressing to Level 3. Refer to our section on Lifeflow Retreats to find out what is scheduled.
There is a lot more going on in our lives than what we think is happening! It is through Lifeflow Meditation practice that we can develop an awareness of what is happening at a physical, emotional and mental level. This awareness can lead to a sense of inner clarity and understanding.
In this module we'll begin a systematic study of the development of awareness; beginning with the body and moving through to the mind. By learning to act mindfully and with awareness, a sense of freshness and clarity can pervade our lives. When the mind is clear, even an action as simple as breathing can be a source of joy.
In addition, we'll be working with and enhancing the Lifeflow Meditations learnt in the other modules and from the Basic Course.
Module 2 – Developing meditative concentration
This module focuses on developing an understanding of the various meditative states, from the lighter states which can be developed and maintained in every day life, through to much deeper levels of concentration. We also look at the differences between healthy and unhealthy mind states - what helps the development of concentration and what hinders it.
In this module you can develop an understanding of the deeper experiences of meditation. This can give you the knowledge needed to be able to recognise these states for yourself and to learn to track your meditation progress.
In addition, we'll be working with and enhancing the Lifeflow Meditations learnt in the other modules and from the Basic Course.
Module 3 – Life in balance
Lifeflow Meditation can bring the mind, body and emotions to a healthy balance. In this module we look at how to cultivate this balance point: how to get there, how to recognise it and what guidelines will help along the way. From this state of balance, the techniques of Lifeflow Meditation can be used to skilfully make decisions that incorporate not just the head view but also the feelings, emotions and realities of our body.
We will also look at a practical set of values that we can bring to decisions and apply throughout our life. We inherit values from our parents, schooling and culture. Often we are unaware of them - they are taken for granted. What values are relevant for contemporary life? What is the basis for value systems in our life?
We will look at values that are based on the direct experiences and insights gained through the practice of meditation. Again, the emphasis is on the practical rather than being bound by belief systems.
