Lifeflow meditation guide training

Learn and grow - train yourself to guide short Lifeflow meditationsGuides refresher session – Aug 2010 – click here for details.

This practical 6-week course is designed for people who would like to use the tool of meditation as an adjunct to their work – for example medical and allied health professionals, social workers and teachers.

You will be taught  to guide others through a range of Lifeflow techniques, including short mindfulness meditations, which can be used to find calm and balance in all sorts of situations – in the car, at work or with your family.  Emphasis is placed on giving all participants enough experience to develop the skills needed to lead groups through several meditations. Past participants have also found the skills and knowledge learnt greatly enhanced their own meditation practice.

Guide Training builds on the theory and meditation practices taught in our Learn to Meditate (Level 1) course.  Consequently, completion of this course is a prerequisite for participation in the Guides training course. This is a necessary prerequisite because both knowledge and understanding of key features of the Learn to Meditate course are assumed within the Guides course (ie including the Lifeflow 3-C Technique and the Four Step Meditation Technique), as well as the experience of being guided through meditations by Lifeflow Graduates from the first training groupmeditation teachers. Our experience with Guides training groups to date demonstrates that this prior exposure to the meditation guiding techniques of Lifeflow Teachers, and practice of the meditations taught in the Lifeflow Learn to Meditate course enable participants to develop their own guiding skills more effectively and quickly in the guides training.

How is the course structured?

The course is run over six weeks in 3hr sessions. Your learning will take place within a small informal group setting, supported by two teachers from Lifeflow. There will be plenty of opportunity to question, discuss, problem-solve and consolidate your skills and knowledge.

What can I expect to get out of this course?

The course begins with a revision of the core theory of meditation as introduced in the Lifeflow Learn to Meditate course, including the use of mindfulness meditations. Week by week, a range of techniques that can be easily learnt and applied within your field of practice are then introduced.  At the first session comprehensive training notes will be given to course participants including all the theory and meditation exercises taught in the course.  Meditation reminder cards will be provided to participants on completion of the course.

Assessment and Statement of Completion

To ensure that all potential Guides have a thorough understanding of the basic theory and are confident in their delivery of the meditation exercises taught, an important component of this course is evaluation. The evaluation will cover both the theory and practical components of the course.

Practical assessment:

  • Throughout the course informal feedback will be given as you learn to guide meditations in small groups.
  • By week six you will be expected to guide a short meditation in front of the group.

A short written evaluation will be used for theory assessment: this will comprise a series of short questions, each one generally needing just a paragraph answer.  It is expected that the questions will be handed out in week five and answers collected in week six.

The Lifeflow Meditation Centre makes a clear distinction between guiding meditation and teaching meditation. The course aims to train all participants to Guide training level. Meditation Guides are qualified to guide introductory Lifeflow meditations, using these in conjunction with their existing therapeutic practices. A Lifeflow Teacher is someone who has at least five years of Lifeflow training and is qualified to teach a wide range of meditations and related meditation theory.

All participants who have attended the entire course and successfully completed the evaluation will be awarded a Statement of Completion certificate.
